Ethical Insights of World Religions and Cultures Can Also Inspire Climate-Rescue Efforts

Interfaith dialogues, based on loving faith rather than divisive beliefs,[22] can help us understand how the levels of ethics become operative so as to establish a moral ground in climate studies. They can help us link several key notions informing our text such as universal values—thus helping provide foundations needed for a global ethics. We turn to reflect on some cultural, religious traditions and relevant texts.

*In the Chandogya Upanishad, one reads:

This Atman (human being) that I have in my heart is smaller than a grain of rice, smaller than an oat, smaller than a seed . . .

This Atman that I have in my heart is greater than the globe . . . greater than all spaces of the Universes. In it are . . . all contained; it embraces all . . .

He who has attained to this knowledge, for him verily there is no more doubt. This Atman that I have in my heart, it is this Brahman.[23]
